In 2011, the Chinese Academy of Sciences launched the “Future Advanced Nuclear Fission Energy†Strategic Pilot Science and Technology Project, which focused on the research strengths of 14 institutions including the Institute of Modern Physics, Chinese Academy of Sciences, the Institute of High Energy Physics of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, and the University of Science and Technology of China, breaking the ADS. The unidirectional key technologies such as strong current superconducting proton linear accelerators, high-power spallation targets, and sub-critical reactor devices have laid the technical foundation for China's pioneering experimental installation. In the research, Chinese scientists have innovatively proposed the ADANES nuclear energy system, which has passed a large-scale parallel computing simulation study and completed a series of principled experimental verifications, and has made breakthrough progress. Xu Jushan, deputy director of the Institute of Modern Physics at the Chinese Academy of Sciences, said that ADANES integrates the transformation of nuclear waste, proliferation of nuclear fuel, and nuclear power generation to increase the utilization rate of uranium resources from less than 1% to more than 95%.
