Future firefighters personal protective equipment

In the United States, a full-featured protective suit that was resistant to biochemical toxins was put into trial in the summer of 2005.

In order to produce firefighters' protective clothing for all kinds of disasters, the International Firefighters Federation (IAFF) together with the Total Fire Group, a leading manufacturer of fire protection equipment, held a fire prevention steering conference in Indianapolis, United States, in April 2005. The protective clothing prototype was exhibited at the FDIC.

The assistant director of the International Fire Fighters Federation’s Health and Safety Department, Rich Duffy, said at the FDIC that they will continue with the appearance and function of the original protective clothing while also deriving their chemical, biological, and radiation sources. Nuclear (CBRN) radiation is minimized.

One of the highlights of this kit is to improve the traditional vapor barrier layer to a vapor barrier layer/chemical/biological barrier and maintain the breathability consistent with the traditional moisture protection function. In addition, all parts that are in direct contact with the outside world, such as wrists, ankles, and necks, must be completely closed. At the same time, the fire suits are connected from helmets, coats, gloves, fire trousers to fire boots, and the parts are connected together as a whole.

The International Firefighters Federation (IAFF) and Total Fire Group make the following requests:

The fire helmet is usually sealed with a jacket on the collar line, and consists of a protective clothing outer layer, a steam barrier layer and a heat radiating lining, and a sealing line suitable for a self-contained air breathing apparatus (SCBA). The jacket's sealed zipper extends until the face seals the helmet.

The outer shell is equipped with a FIN liner that acts like a flap that is sealed with an airtight zipper.

Gloves are attached to the sleeve cuffs and magnetic seals are used at the connection. The side zipper has the function of preventing detachment, but separation can occur during twisting.

A strong strap is used to connect the top and waist protective pants. The built-in collar prevents the trousers from needing a zipper seal.

The protective boot lining looks like a sock, extending from the trousers tube into the boot and connecting with the protective boot. The soles of the soles of the boots serve to prevent the liquid from leaking and ensure the foot's dryness.

An innovative system draws the self-contained air respirator exhaust gas into the air duct. The positive pressure of this system is resistant to external penetration and has an upper semi-refrigeration system.

The moisture barrier of the system serves as the main externally infiltrated sealant, and various outer layers and heat dissipation layer materials are also used. The inhaled gas circulates in the jacket and functions as a refrigeration, because under normal fire conditions, the outside air temperature tends to be higher than that of the gas.

The Local Emergency Operations and Equipment Project (Project HEROES) is a contract between the Federal Government and the Technical Support Working Group (TSWG). The Department of Homeland Security, International Association of Firefighters (IAFF), International Association of Fire Chiefs, National Occupational Safety and Health The Institute (NIOSH), the University of Massachusetts, and the University of Arkansas, together with the Total Fire Group, sponsored the investment.

The project is devoted to the manufacture of excellent protective clothing, strengthening chemical, biological, radiation and nuclear protection on the basis of existing protective clothing structures without affecting its thermal protection, comfort and original functions.

Chemical protection has resistance to cyanide, such as mustard gas, neurotoxic agents, and toxic industrial chemicals.

Bio-protection mainly targets anthrax, botulinum toxin and ricin.

Radiation and nuclear protection are mainly aimed at materials that easily lead to damage, pollution and radiation.

After the fire department guidance meeting is held, the on-site assessments of the fire protection departments of major cities will start in the spring and summer of 2005. This work aims to evaluate this new technology and eventually realize its commercialization.

With the on-site testing work carried out, a spokesperson for the project said that the product was fully investigated. Its functionality, practicality, and effects will all be tested and redesigned if necessary.

International Personal Protection Company (IPPI) and Jeffrey Stour are members of the HEROES project. Stuart is mainly responsible for technical coordination of the project, test plan progress, project schedule, implementation of all tests, project reports and the development of relevant provisions of the HEROES project.
