Indian Chamber of Commerce and Industry Holds Workshop on Protective and Fire-retardant Textile

The Ministry of Textiles and the Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FICCI) jointly organized a seminar on “Enhancing the Protection of Textile Government-Industry-Consumer Relations”. Senior officials from the Central and State Governments will speak at the seminar. More than 100 delegates attending the seminar came from national defense, police, security, regulatory agencies, national government, hotels, reuse and various industries.

In India, protective textiles are a rapidly growing industry that is expected to grow by 9-10% annually for the next five years. The domestic market for protective textiles will increase from Rs 1,259 crore in 2007-08 to Rs 2000 crore in 2012-12. The protection of textiles includes textiles and garments. The materials used in these textiles and garments protect wearers and users from harmful chemicals, extreme Winton (high and low temperatures), and provide ballistic protection. Flame-retardant clothing, jackets, body armor, high visibility clothing, etc., all belong to protected textile products.

The purpose of this seminar is to bring together regulators in the areas of consumers, suppliers and public safety to understand each other’s needs and concerns. In India, the use of these protective textiles is very limited and far below the market potential of India, mainly due to the lack of awareness of many consumer groups. At the same time, unlike developed countries, there are no mandatory standards for textiles used in public areas/buildings in India. Therefore, most public places still do not use flame-retardant textiles. Therefore, the public face a very high risk. Although India has established some rules and regulations (especially flame retardance), the amount of protective textiles is still far from enough. Therefore, there is an urgent need to promote the development of this industry and encourage the use of protective textiles.
