Quality supervisors teach you how to prevent formaldehyde damage in new homes

After the house was completely renovated, many people chose to stay within six months and had let harmful gases, especially formaldehyde, evaporate. As everyone knows, the volatilization time of formaldehyde is as long as 15 to 20 years. If it is improperly decorated, it can hardly guarantee that formaldehyde will not exceed the standard if it is completely renovated. How to prevent indoor air pollution during renovation? The reporter asked the quality supervision personnel to support you.

During September "Quality Month" period, the Wuxi Bureau of Quality Supervision deliberately carried out indoor air testing activities for 30 residents in the urban area who renovated less than half a year. Yesterday was the first day of the test. The reporter specially followed the staff of the Wuxi Quality Inspection Institute. Go to the home to sample. According to Zhao Xiaogang, the engineer of the institute, from the results of the free testing activities conducted in the past, many newly renovated residents have air pollution in their homes. The main pollution components are benzene, toluene, xylene, and formaldehyde. The first three are easily volatile. The most difficult to volatilize, the volatilization period will be as long as 15 to 20 years, and some improperly decorated households have even exceeded their standards of formaldehyde. Formaldehyde has a great impact on human health, especially children's health, and can cause severe asthma and cancer.

Control pollution sources: select qualified environmental protection building materials

To prevent indoor air pollution during the decoration process, we must first control it from the source. The use of pollution-free decoration materials that comply with national standards is an effective measure to reduce indoor toxic and harmful gases. For example, the use of paints and adhesives that meet the requirements of environmental indicators, non-polluting or less-polluting materials can greatly reduce the content of benzene in the indoor air; the purchase and use of specially-baked wood products can effectively reduce the release of formaldehyde. .

Why there is no problem of excessive formaldehyde in ancient furniture? Zhao Xiaogang said that because wood is generally transported by waterways, water absorbs formaldehyde in large quantities and it is fully baked, which contributes to the volatilization of harmful gases. What about modern furniture? Logs are transported in closed containers. After being shipped to a furniture factory, manufacturers generally consider the production of furniture, and they will not conduct special baking on wood. In order to be able to quickly leave the factory, a large amount of adhesives will be used, making formaldehyde hard to evaporate, and consumers will buy it. After returning home, it is easy to cause air pollution.

Simple decoration: avoid superposition of pollution

Family room decoration should be based on practicality and simplicity. Over-fitting can easily lead to the superposition effect of pollution. For example, when some consumers are laying solid wood flooring for new homes, a layer of blockboard is also added below, in order to make the floor more flat and the foot feel better when stepping on. From an environmental point of view, this over-decoration is actually not necessary. Once there is a quality problem in the underlying blockboard, toxic and harmful gases such as formaldehyde will diffuse outward through the upper solid wood floor and be released. At that time, the cost consumers would spend would be high no matter if they were replaced or dismantled.

Zhao Xiaogang said that some families still like to put various wall coverings and wallpapers on the walls in order to make the living room brighter, but in fact it is also likely to cause excessive formaldehyde. why? Because of the large amount of glue needed for wall coverings and wallpapers, not only is it not conducive to the volatilization of toxic and harmful gases in paints and paints, but it will absorb some toxic and harmful gases. In addition, during the renovation, some decoration companies will send some glue to customers. Some consumers think that they have gotten cheaper. However, in fact, some glues are not too hard and they are more harmful after they are used.

Ventilation humidification: effective adsorption of indoor formaldehyde

Strengthen ventilation, use outdoor fresh air to dilute indoor air pollutants, reduce the concentration of toxic and harmful gases, and improve indoor air quality. It is the simplest and fastest way to prevent home-made pollution. If there are conditions, consumers can also buy a humidifier on the home to increase the indoor air humidity and also absorb formaldehyde. If it is not conditional, putting a few more pots of water at home can also absorb formaldehyde, but in the next few hours, change the secondary water. Otherwise, if the formaldehyde concentration in the water is too high, it will not absorb new formaldehyde. Just after the renovation, you can also spread some slaked lime on the ground, or buy some activated charcoal and put it in your home, and it can also adsorb formaldehyde.

There are also ways to absorb a large amount of formaldehyde at one time. Zhao Xiaogang said that after the renovation, all doors and windows of the house were closed, and then the humidity of the indoor air was increased to 80% through humidification. After a week, excessive levels of formaldehyde, if not serious, would normally be controlled within the acceptable range. Does indoor humidity reach 80% will not corrode walls and furniture? Zhao Xiaogang said no, Wuxi is located in the south of the Yangtze River, and the air humidity in the summer will generally be 60% to 70%. Humidification to 80% will not affect the living room. Therefore, it is generally recommended that the decoration completion period be set in June and July because the high temperature and high air humidity at that time will be conducive to the volatilization of toxic and harmful gases such as formaldehyde.
