Saudi Arabia develops new three-dimensional electrode supercapacitors

In December 2011, the research team led by Husam N. Al Sharif, King Abdullah University of Science and Technology in Saudi Arabia, developed a new three-dimensional electrode that greatly improved the capacitance of supercapacitors.
It is reported that the manganese dioxide-carbon nanotube-sponge electrode is a three-dimensional macroporous layered structure, manganese dioxide is uniformly deposited on the carbon nanotube sponge structure, and the intricate pores remain open and can flow through the electrolyte.
It is understood that the researchers have shown that the supercapacitor electrode is prepared with a large pore structure, high unit capacitance, ultra-fast charge and discharge speed, good cycle stability, energy and power density, and much lighter than rigid metal in the same area. Other flexible substrates, after all mechanical testing, will always return to their original shape without any permanent deformation.
In addition, researchers have now made new high-performance sponge supercapacitors, as reported in Nano Express, titled "High Performance Nanostructured Supercapacitors with Sponges."
