The world's largest caprolactam production base starts

On September 26, the caprolactam expansion project of Nanjing DSM Dongfang Chemical Co., Ltd. was officially launched. The project will have an investment of approximately US$300 million. Upon completion and production, the company will become the largest caprolactam production base in the world.

According to reports, the construction of a caprolactam production line with an annual production capacity of 200,000 tons will begin. The total project investment will be approximately US$300 million. The new production facility will be built on the existing site of Nanjing DSM Dongfang Chemical Co., Ltd., located in the Industrial Development Zone along the Yangtze River. It is expected to start production in the third quarter of 2013 and reach the maximum design capacity in 2014. By then, the company's annual production capacity will be increased from the current 200,000 tons to 400,000 tons, and annual sales income will reach 10 billion yuan***.

Caprolactam is a raw material for synthetic fiber nylon and is widely used in carpets, films, engineering plastics, tire cords and other production areas. DSM Nanjing Dongfang Chemical Co., Ltd. is a joint venture of Royal Dutch DSM, Sinopec Nanjing Chemical Industry Co., Ltd. and Jiangsu International Trust and Investment Co., Ltd.
